Singapore 2008
simagebh, 08:50h
Starting from the 3rd of February I stayed in Singapore for 4 days, leaving at Chinese New Years Day. As a city state Sinpapore has about four million citizens. The countries official language is English whereas "Singlish" is the most commonly spoken one. Singlish is a mixture between English 70%, Chinese 20% and Indian 10 %.
I stayed in the Goodwood Park Hotel, which was built in 1900 as a German club.

The hotel is currently listet among the 300 best hotels in the world.
Singapore is dominated by trade and finance. It's habour is supposed to be the biggest in Asia and is the reloading point for goods comming from or to China. Singapore has a quite impressive skyline

... which I even more enjoyed at night (not only because of the temperature).

The concert hall of Singapore, which was designed to compete with the famous one in Sydney. Hmm, I have my doubts?!

... and the number one foto motive for postcards ... but sorry no background informations.

As you can see German culture (still) plays an important role in Asia. Imagine this fence at your favourite Chinese restaurant round the corner in Germany (... specially from the inside of the garden) ;-).

... some windy houses in China Town, but all shops are closed ... today is Chinese New Year's eve! It is tradition, that you give good friends two oranges as a present, got two as well ;-).

Be carefull it's getting crowded ...
...
time for the New Years festival and everyone is hustling around,

... oh what's that, it's the year of the rat!

...

And I do not know, what this guy here stands for

... but again there are way too much enough people around,
.
Puh now I need a beer in one of the good old English pubs,
.
